About Houston High Choirs
Auditions for the choirs are in the Spring.
This is an auditioned mixed choir for students with advanced vocal skills. Course content includes the study of fundamental vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history. Performances, mandatory dress rehearsals, and All West auditions are required as scheduled. The purchase of performance attire is also required for this class.
This is an auditioned treble choir for 9th-12th grade women with intermediate to advanced vocal skills. Course content includes the study of fundamental vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history. The purchase of performance attire is required for this class.
This is an auditioned advanced contemporary a cappella mixed choir comprised of 15 voices. Students sing a variety of pop music and are expected to be proficient sight readers. During the Holiday season, the group is known to dress in traditional Dickens attire and carol for many organizations throughout the Memphis area. It is strongly encouraged that Fifth Measure students be enrolled in one other choir course. To be eligible for Fifth Measure, students must have been in a high school choir for at least one year.
This is a chamber mixed ensemble comprised of advanced singers. Repertoire is early sacred and secular choral music. This group meets after-school and performs in various churches and concerts. Students in this group must also be in Concert Choir. *Auditions for 2021-2022 will be in the Fall*
This new mixed choir is designed for incoming freshman. Students are expected to have some beginner experience of choral singing. The course will explore vocal technique, choral tone, and performance techniques. Sight-reading fundamentals will also be learned and solidified. The purchase of performance attire is required for this class.
